Meloxicam inhibits the COX – 2 ( more than COX – 1 ). It causes the inhibition of collagen – induced thrombocyte aggregation to a minor extent.

Overdose / Side Effects / Contraindications / Warnings :
Overdose may results in serious side effects following as :
- Nausea, Vomiting or hematemesis.
- Diarrhea or loose motion.
- Melena / fecal occult blood.
- Dark stools or tarry stools.
- Loss of appetite or Anorexia.
- Lethargy.
- Kidney and liver problems.
- Few cases of stomach ulcers.
When should Metaflam not be used ?
You should not give your dog Metaflam 2.5 mg to your dog if your dog have :
- If your dog is allergic to meloxicam or any ingredients in Metaflam.
- If your dog is less then 6 weeks old or less than 4 kg body weight.
- If your dog is pregnant or lactating.
- If your dog have kidney, liver, gastrointestinal or heart problems.
- If your dog is dehydrated.
- If your dog has a bleeding disorder.
- It has been given with other NSAID medication, corticosteroids, some heart drugs, diuretics, aminoglycoside, anti – coagulants and some drugs for seizure control.
Mode of action of Meloxicam :
Meloxicam is completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and has an elimination half – life of 24 hours in the dog. It is also excreted in the feces and urine. The metabolites, detectable in the urine are biologically inactive and do not influence the prostaglandin synthesis in the kidney.
